Our support to you
Once you are approved following Panel we will ask for your consent to forward your details to the National Adoption Register. The Register holds details of all the children throughout the country who are waiting for adoptive families. We will also circulate a more detailed ‘profile’ of your family to all local authorities in order to advertise your availability and begin the process of identifying a suitable match.
We encourage you to join Link Maker, which enables you to be actively involved in looking for a possible link with a child. Link Maker is also used to inform you of the profiles of particular children who are waiting for families.
We also receive profiles of children directly from local authorities who are searching for a family, and we will carefully consider whether any of these children would be a good link for you.
Where a potential match is identified we will ensure that all the available information regarding the child(ren) is shared with you e.g. Children’s Permanence Reports and medical reports, education reports etc. and share your information with the local authority concerned. We will fully discuss the placement needs of the child(ren) and whether or not you have the potential to meet them. You will be fully included in all consultations at the earliest possible stage and will have access to all written information relating to the child(ren). Opportunities to meet with foster-carers, teachers and medical advisors or other individuals significant to the child will be made available to ensure you have all the information you need to support you in the decision making process.
The experienced team of professionals at ARC Adoption will continue to support you throughout the matching process, ensuring that you have access to all available information to enable you to make an informed decision. Your adoption support worker will attend placement planning meetings and adoption placement support discussions and will contribute to the matching report (APR), and adoption support plan for presentation to the child’s Adoption Panel. The Director or Assistant Director, together with your adoption social worker, will attend the inter-agency planning meeting. Your adoption support worker will attend adoption reviews and work with the child’s social worker to identify any additional support you may need.
We will keep in regular contact with you including visits and telephone contact to ensure you are supported throughout the placement of the child(ren), right through to the final adoption court hearing.
We will also ensure that you have the opportunity to meet with other newly approved or existing adopters by offering further training on specific topics and arranging support group meetings as opportunities for you to network with other adopters.
Following the adoption process we will also provide a Therapeutic Adoption Support Service.
