The Principles of Theraplay®

Theraplay® is all about building safe, secure attachments through having fun together.

It is modelled on secure interactions between parents and their children, and recognises the importance of making positive connections and the impact on lifelong mental health.

It is a short term, intense programme of activities to create or fine tune parent/child relationships, focusing on building attachments.

When trauma has occurred within a relationship, it takes a healthy relationship to heal it. Theraplay® helps the child feel calm and safe and helps the child learn to have fun.

At ARC Adoption we like to give adopters an insight to the principles of Theraplay® and how it can be used in everyday life to support relationships and attachments. It is a one day course, delivered by two members of staff who have undertaken Theraplay® training based on Theraplay® principles.

You’ll be invited to come along to ARC Adoption's office where you'll receive first-hand practice whilst having some fun and picking up advice to understand and help manage your child’s feelings and behaviours.

If you would like to find out more about ARC Adoption's adoption training or for more information about the adoption process please call the team at ARC Adoption on 0191 516 6466 or click the adoption enquiry button below to submit an enquiry and a member of the ARC Adoption team will contact you as soon as possible.
