News & events Come and find out about adopting on Big Adoption Day! On Wednesday 15th January 2025, voluntary adoption agencies across the UK will be opening their doors simultaneously to mark Big Adoption Day 2025. Across the UK, events will be held with an opportunity for potential adoptive parents to find out more about the positives of growing their families through adoption, adopters and adoptees sharing and celebrating their experiences and a moment to celebrate the benefits of working with voluntary adoption agencies through this process. Come and meet the ARC Adoption Team On the afternoon of Big Adoption Day, ARC Adoption is hosting an informal Adoption Drop-in Session from 2pm-5pm, where interested people can pop in and have a chat with our enquiries team social workers, with the chance to see our offices where we host our training and support our families in Sunderland. The team are also hosting an Adoption Information Event from 6pm to 8pm where we will have an adoptive family join us to share their experience of adopting their little boy with our help, as well as hear a useful information from our team about the children in need of families, the adoption process, and the support we can provide. "It may be surprising for people to hear that there are currently 2600 children in need of an adoptive family in England, and 170 in the North East and Cumbria alone, so we'd suggest anyone who is interested in finding out more about adopting to come along to one of our sessions. We understand it can be daunting to take the first step towards something so important and potentially life changing - we’re here to provide friendly advice to help people decide if it is the right path for their family, and let them know how we can help them now or in the future." Joan, Senior Adoption Social Worker, ARC Adoption Enquiries Team Voluntary adoption agencies are independent, not for profit organisations, known for offering a personalised service to adopters as well as lifelong support, which is flexible and responsive to what families need, when they need it. Collectively they have a wealth of experience having placed thousands of children with adoptive families, particularly older children, those in sibling groups and children from the global majority or with disabilities. Danielle adopted a little girl with husband Jake: "We went to a couple of information events, and we'd advise anyone to do the same. Adopting is a such a huge decision, so it’s important to choose an agency that is the right fit. We went to an event with ARC and things just clicked. It was a combination of how comfortable we felt, and the ongoing support that they offered. At that time, we didn’t really know what we'd need help with, but it was reassuring to know that support would always be there, when starting the process to something so life changing."
