Senior Adoption Social Worker

Joan is a highly skilled, qualified social worker who has dedicated her career to either caring for children as a residential social worker, working directly with children and families in a safeguarding role, or supporting foster carers to look after children within a local authority setting.

She was instrumental in setting up a ‘Permanence Scheme’ to enable children aged eight to 12 years remain in stable foster families until independence and played a crucial role on the neighbouring local authority fostering panel.

After experiencing first-hand the benefits for children who are moved onto adoptive placements, Joan delighted the ARC Adoption team by joining them in 2018 to take a lead in the recruitment of potential adopters and sensitively guiding enquirers through the emotional and sometimes difficult decisions facing them in their exciting journey ahead to become parents.
