Senior Adoption Practitioner

Mam to two fabulous daughters, Sylvia began her career as a houseparent in a residential school for children with disabilities before progressing to become a resettlement officer, supporting adults with learning disabilities move from institutions to bespoke living arrangements within the community.

Sylvia then qualified as a social worker (coming up 30 years this year), gained a wealth of experience, working with children and their families in child protection and care proceedings, securing safe and creative permanence arrangements for them.

Progressing to senior practitioner and team manager, Sylvia continued to be a strong advocate for children who were looked after. Supporting strength-based care arrangements, promoting resilience and lifelong wellbeing, and encouraging care givers to be aspirational for them in a way that celebrates their differences and maximises independence.

Sylvia joined ARC Adoption in 2019 becoming an integral part of the social work team. Working closely with prospective parents on a one-on-one basis as they complete their journeys to become adoptive parents, Sylvia has also been instrumental in the development and delivery of a range of peer support initiatives, as well as our training and preparation programme.  Sylvia is a passionate advocate of ARC Adoption and its important work with families and is proud to be part of its success to date.
